Sri Annapoorneshwari Temple is located at Horanadu around 100 Kms from Chikmagalur. It is an ancient and revered shrine located in amidst thick forests and valleys.

The Deity of the temple is Sri Annapoorneshwari, a form of Parvati. This idol is said be installed by the renowned Sage Agastya. This sanctum was renovated by a learned astrologer Venkatasubba Jois apart from the installation of the new image of Adi Shakti. Now the temple is called as Adi-Shaktyatmaka Shri Annapoorneshwari.

The goddess idol is of 5 ft high made of Panchaloha weighing about 550 kgs. The goddess stands on a Peeta with Devi Gayathri, Sri Chakra, Shanka and Chakra in her four hands. Adi Sesha surrounds the sanctum. The Padma Peeta has Ashtagaja and Koorma. The goddess carries an Annapathre which is a vessel containing food in Vardha hastha and spoon in Abhaya hastha.

There is a Teertha mantapa which can host about 400 people to watch the pooja of Goddess Annapoorneshwari. The Mahapooja continues for half an hour.

The Poojas are offered thrice in a day. They are accompanied by the drums, the music and the beatings. On Tuesdays, Fridays, and all days of Navarathri, special poojas are offered to the deity. On the days of Karthika month navami, Hanuma jayanthi, nagara panchami and Shravana, day-long deepothsava is held. The rice, vegetables, fruits, flowers and coconuts are offered to the goddess. On the first day of May, Rathotsava is held.

There is a five-day annual festival includes the Hoovina pooje, the Panjurli Daivada Baliseva, the Pete Savari, the Katte Pooje, the Tulabhara Seve and the Samprokshane. The spacious Annapoorna Dining hall offers food to all devotees everyday. The “Annaprasda” of this place is referred as the most sacred of all other prasadams.
