Shree Vishnumurthy Temple is situated in Kulai town at 15 kms north of Mangalore along the west coast high way. It is one of the ancient Vishnu shrines in Mangalore. Shree Vishnumurthy, another form of Lord Mahavishnu is the main deity of this temple. As per the archeologists, the age of this statue is around 600 years.
In the beginning, there was no temple complex for the god. Shri Venkatramana Hebbar constructed the shrine with the help of local residents and villagers. The renovation of the temple took place in many steps. Initially, the Ashtabandha Brahmakalasha covering the roof of the sanctum was installed. Mahaganapathi Prathishte, and Naga Prathishte were done in the next stages. Later Dwajasthambha was installed along with the inauguration of five days Annual Festival. A communication road was also constructed from the temple to the high way.
A new chariot was dedicated to the lord. Later Vasantha Mantapa was dedicated to the god. Sri Pejavara Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji inaugurated the Bhajana Sapthaha and the construction of Mahadwara. A Surya Mandala was constructed and dedicated to the lord. Sri Vishnumurthy Kalyana Mantapa with all facilities was inaugurated for the benefit of public.
The main important festivals and celebrations of the temple are the Nagara Panchami, the Shri Krishna Janmashtami, the Vinayaka Chathurthi, the Simha Sankramana, the Kanya Sankramana, the Alankara Pooja, the Ranga Pooja, the Appada Pooja, the Subrahmanya Shasthi, the Dhanu Pooja, and the Meena Masa Shuddha Chathurdashi.
